Adoption Options, Inc. provides home study services for domestic, interstate and international adoptions. Most agency adoptions will require a home study prior to your approval for the adoption of a child.
What is a home study?
A home study is both a process and a product. This is a simultaneous process of assessment and self-evaluation, which is completed in partnership with your Adoption Options social worker. The product is a written document, which gives an overview of your life, readiness for adoption and resources. Your home study is an important part of your process of preparation for your child.
What is involved in the home study process?
Your home study process includes a home visit and interviews, health statements, background checks, autobiographical statements, references and other verifications.
This is an insightful process that assists you in better getting to know yourself as a prospective parent! We are here to work with you through this process.
Home Study Services Include:
- Home Study Evaluation
- Summary Version of the Home Study
- Annual Home Study Updates
- Home Study Addendum
- Criminal Background Checks

The intent of post placement supervision is to assist the family and the child with the process of adjusting to each other. Adoption Options is available to provide support and counseling to the family. The number of supervisory visits will be dictated by the requirements of the state of Georgia, the child’s state or country of origin, and possibly the requirements of the placement agency.

Interstate Compact Services |
Children born in another US state who have been adopted by parents who are Georgia residents will required by the Georgia Interstate Compact (ICPC) to submit required documentation before the placement can proceed. Adoption Options, Inc. provides ICPC Administration Services, which include the submission of documentation, support to families and liaison with ICPC offices. |
Being an adoptive parent is different from being a parent by birth. Not worse, not better – just different. You need to know what these differences are, accept them and celebrate them.
Adoption is not a one time event but an ongoing process that changes the life of every member of your family. You need to be prepared for issues that may arise in the future.
You have a number of important decisions to make. We are here to support you throughout this process and the information from your adoptive parent training is part of that support.
Adoptive family preparation is good for your child because:
Parents who are prepared and educated are better able to assist their child or children to understand, accept and celebrate the fact that they are adopted.
Your child deserves prepared and educated parents, who have knowledge of the issues and the strength and determination to stay with their lifelong commitment.
Parents who have had the opportunity to assess their strengths and vulnerabilities will be better able to help and support their child in the years to come.
Training is offered over three to four sessions. Some additional specialist seminars may also be required. Training will also be made available for extended family members, professional groups and the wider community. |
