OUR MISSION

Adoption Options, Inc. helps each adoptive family, including non-traditional parents, and each birth family to ensure that their child thrives by planning together their roles in the child’s life and the unique ways that they will maintain their child’s significant connections.

OUR VISION

Adoption Options, Inc. envisions forever families, created uniquely by the adoptive and birth families themselves, with their children secure in their circumstances, proud of their blended heritage, and confident in their future.

If you are a prospective Birth Parent, we offer you:

  • Pregnancy counseling and support;
  • The opportunity to explore all of the options that are available to you;
  • If you choose adoption, you have the option of a cooperative open adoption.

We understand that this is one of the most difficult decisions of your life. Only you know what is best for you and your baby. We are here to listen, provide you with information and support you.

If you are a prospective Adoptive Parent, we offer you:

Adoption services for international and domestic adoptions. Through individual consultations and seminars, we will help you choose the best adoption option for you, as well as providing adoption services, which include:

  • Home study (assessment) services
  • Interstate compact services (for interstate adoptions)
  • Post-placement supervision and finalization services
  • Consultation, support and administrative services.
  • Pre-adoption training
  • Adoption counseling

If you are an attorney or another agency, we offer you:

  • Efficient and effective adoptions services provided by a licensed Georgia agency

Founder and Executive Director


Valerie L. Barlow, the founder and Executive Director of Adoption Options, Inc., has 22 years of work experience in human services, including over ten years in international and domestic adoption program development and service delivery. Ms Barlow has a long-standing commitment to supporting the development of children and families. She has been recognized for her innovations and original contributions to the field of adoption, aiding families in successfully realizing their goals. Her extensive experience in management and administration includes her work in the position of Regional Director for a peace and justice organization where she oversaw programs for the nine southeastern states. A Licensed Professional Counselor, with a Masters degree in Counseling and Human Development, Ms Barlow has also lived and worked in the United Kingdom, Kenya and Israel.



Frances McConnell, MSW

Following her undergraduate studies in Psychology at Winthrop University, Frances McConnell completed a Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of South Carolina and gained experience as a Medicaid eligibility worker at the Charleston Department of Social Services.  Her primary professional goal is to work as a child therapist and to that end she is currently working at Georgia Mentor as a Clinical Coordinator where she works with foster children, giving her acute familiarity with the needs of children in need of permanent, secure home environments.

“I hope to bring my open mind and experience to help AO provide excellent services to adoptive families and the children in need of placement,” says Frances.

Ginny Grigsby, MS

Ginny Grigsby, M.S. is dedicated to assisting families with adoption and foster parent home studies and support. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations with a minor in Early Childhood Education in 1999 from Brenau University, and her Master of Science in Clinical Psychology in 2001 from Capella University.

As an adoptee herself, Ms Grigsby brings a unique insider’s perspective and understanding to her work in the field of adoptions. “As an adult adoptee,” Ginny says, “I am dedicated to creating and facilitating successful adoptive families.” She has 8 years of experience in child development and counseling issues.
