Who can adopt?
In Georgia, prospective adoptive parents can married or single,
must be, at least, 25 years old, and can be male or female. If
you are a couple, you must have been married for two years and
at least, one spouse must a US permanent resident or citizen.
You can already have children or may not.

What is a Home Study?
A Home Study, often known as an evaluation or assessment, is a
process of gathering information about the prospective adoptive
parents, which is conducted in partnership with your caseworker.
The purpose of this process is to educate and prepare your
family for adoption.

How long does the home study
process take?
The answer to this question is largely dependent on you and the
time that it takes to gather your documentation. On average the
home study process should take one to three months.

What is Cooperative Open
Adoption? (Domestic Adoption)
A Cooperative Open Adoption is the establishment of a long-term
relationship of varying degrees of shared information and
contact between the birth parents and adoptive parents. Research
has increasingly shown that openness is in the best interest of
the child, and indeed, all adoption participants.

is a Dossier? (International Adoption)
A Dossier is a collection of documents such as birth and
marriage certificates, criminal background checks and medical
reports, etc. that describe who you are. A completed dossier is
required for all international adoptions.
